This Date in Fire History: Sept 8

September 8th marks the 73rd anniversary of the loss of the S.S. Morro Castle, which caught fire en route to Havana, Cuba.

I was going to write a fairly long piece about the disaster, but during my research, I came across this piece -- written by the granddaughter of the woman who christened the ship, and the great-granddaughter of the head of Ward Lines -- at Cornelia's article is written with the depth of knowledge that can only come from family histories.

Go read it.
